Scene 12

VOICE THREE: Timothy
was just a young boy when Paul first met him on a visit to the city of
Lystra. The son of a Gentile father and
a Jewish mother, Timothy was already known throughout that city for his strong
faith.
VOICE TWO: He had been taught the Word of God
from his earliest years by his Grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. This heritage and his call from God to the
ministry prepared Timothy to become a gifted leader in the early church.
VOICE ONE: Paul’s final letter to Timothy was
written from a prison in Rome. Knowing
his days upon earth were few, the apostle sought to encourage his young protégé
and remind him of the many tasks which lay before him in service for God.
VOICE FOUR: (CROSS DOWN LEFT) A teacher in God’s academy.
VOICE THREE: Teach others, Timothy. Teach them so well that they will teach the
next generation, and the next, and the next—
VOICE FOUR: A soldier in God’s army.
VOICE ONE: Dedicated! Committed!
Willing to endure hardship in order to please the One who had enlisted
him.
VOICE FOUR: An athlete on God’s team.
VOICE TWO: Disciplined! In shape!
Striving to win the prize for the glory and honor of his Coach.
VOICE FOUR: A farmer in God’s vineyard.
VOICE THREE: Reaping the rewards of the life and time
he has invested in preparing the soil for God’s harvest.
VOICE FOUR: One of God’s wounded.
VOICE ONE: Suffering like Christ so that
others might obtain eternal glory.
Enduring persecution, knowing that he would reign with God.
VOICE FOUR: A seeker of the knowledge of God.
VOICE TWO: Unashamedly dedicating his life to
the mastery of accurately handling the Word of truth.
VOICE FOUR: A slave to the cause of Christ.
VOICE THREE: “Kind to all, able to teach, patient
when wronged.”
VOICE FOUR: A preacher of the Word.
VOICE ONE: Constant! Impassioned!
Patient! Fulfilling his ministry
as an evangelist of the Good News.
VOICE FOUR: A lover of Christ’s soon appearing!
VOICE TWO: Like his mentor Paul—Fighting the
good fight! Finishing the course! Keeping the faith!
VOICE THREE: Paul’s second letter to Timothy
reveals a lonely man, abandoned by his friends, longing for a warm cloak,
missing his books and parchments and wanting to see his son in the faith one
more time.
VOICE ONE: We don’t know if Paul ever saw
Timothy again. But we know that on the
pages of this letter Timothy saw Paul and rejoiced with him in the confidence
that God would bring him safely to His heavenly kingdom.
VOICE FOUR: To Him be the glory forever and
ever.
ALL: Amen!
